What are 'Smart' times?
If you're enrolled in a program with Automatic Smart Charging, 'Smart' times are the best times to charge your EV at home, as determined by WeaveGrid. While these times often overlap with off-peak hours, they can change day by day depending on factors like your neighborhood's charging demands and overall grid conditions.
Each time you plug in, our algorithms determine your 'Smart' times by prioritizing the following goals, in this order:
- Get your car charged to your target battery level by the time you need it, respecting any add-ons you've enabled
- Charge at the lowest-cost times
- Charge when energy generation is cheapest or when the electric grid stress is lowest
How is my Smart Score calculated?
Your Smart Score will be shown on your WeaveGrid dashboard or app, as a Smart Charging %. It represents how much of your home charging happened during the optimized schedules WeaveGrid created for you, based on the selected time period (defaulting to the last 7 days).
It's calculated by dividing the energy charged during your 'Smart' times by your total home charging energy for that period.
To increase your Smart charging %, plug in whenever you are home, and minimize the times you override the optimized schedules. The best approach is to simply plug in when you’re home and let WeaveGrid manage your charging for you!
How is my Smart Score calculated?
You can use the weekly ‘Smart’ charging percentage on your WeaveGrid dashboard to track your monthly Smart score.
By participating in TEP’s Smart Charge program, we recommend sticking to your recommended ‘Smart’ schedule at least 85% of the time each month to earn rewards.
